Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth – MV Energy Network Management System.
In 2007 Weirgrove provided systems integration expertise and the network control systems for EDF Contracting while the hospital was undergoing redevelopment under a PFI initiative.
The project was challenging due to the range of systems from different suppliers, both new and existing, that were integrated into a single cohesive network management system. The project had to be delivered with the absolute minimum of disruption to hospital services and was simulated offsite then validated in situ while maintaining continuity of supply.
The 11kV network was expanded to a total of thirteen substations, including some legacy substations at the opposite boundary of the site, Weirgrove deployed a combination of fibre-optic, copper and radio links to create a secure communications network for the ENMS control system.

- Secure remote control of 11kV ring switching functions.
- Primary LV Automatic Mains Changeover Panels (AMCO).
- Load Stepping for inrush control on "black start" to generators.
- Adaptive Load Shedding System (ALSS).
